Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru has a more high-toned bouquet with touches of cassis infusing the brambly red fruit, though it does not possess the complexity of the best Clos Vougeot this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy with good depth, juicy ripe tannins encasing the cranberry and strawberry frit, a touch of spice carrying the finish over the line. It is just a little...predictable, but well made. Tasted September 2016.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Craipillot has a classy bouquet. Yes, it is introspective at the moment but there is real complexity here : black plum, wild strawberry and cold stone, very focused and harmonious. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe tannin, plenty of juicy red berry fruit mixed with a pinch of sea salt towards the finish. It needs another 2-3 years in bottle, but is should evolve into a very fine Gevrey-Chambertin. This surpasses my expectations from barrel, which is great to see. Tasted September 2016.
